Uttar Pradesh’s newly appointed Chief Minister, Aditya Nath on Tuesday began a daylong trip to New Delhi during which he is likely expected to discuss the distribution of portfolios for his ministers with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Aditya Nath could also to discuss with Modi a reshuffle of the state bureaucracy and seek for the funds for expediting certain development projects. He is also expected to call on the President Pranab Mukherjee.

The UP CM and a sitting member of the Lok Sabha could hand over his resignation letter to Speaker Sumitra Mahajan during the day. A Prime Ministers Office source said that after a new CM comes to Delhi, he or she is expected to meet the PM. The UP CM would meet Modi most probably in Parliament House.

Ironically, Punjab’s Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, who would also be in the national capital, has not sought any appointment with the PM so far. A PMO source said that there is no meeting scheduled between the two. Aditya Nath was sworn in on Sunday after the BJP got its highest ever tally in the two-month-long polls that ended earlier in March.

Before leaving for Lucknow this afternoon, Aditya Nath is also expected to meet the Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. After holding the charge as the CM, Aditya Nath has moved swiftly to ban the mechanised abattoirs, a poll promise of the BJP apart from giving strict instructions to maintain law and order in the state.

Distribution of the Cabinet berths has turned out be a headache for the newly appointed CM. Reports also suggest that Aditya Nath wants to keep the ministry with himself to improve his state’s poor law and order. On the other hand, Keshav Prasad Maurya, the Deputy CM and BJP’s Uttar Pradesh Unit Chief are also said to be interested in the Home Ministry with him. A final decision regarding this matter is likely expected to be taken by the BJP’s leadership in Delhi.
